Two skyscrapers near India’s capital Delhi were demolished in a carefully planned explosion on Sunday afternoon (28).

It was the largest such operation in India to date, and it sparked such interest that it was broadcast live on television channels.

According to Jet Demolitions Managing Director Joe Brinkmann, it took 12 seconds to demolish the Supertech twin towers in Noida on Sunday.

Thousands of residents in the area were forced to flee hours before the explosion, which was powered by approximately 3,700kg of explosives.

And the work isn’t done yet; the next step is to clear thousands of tonnes of demolition debris.

Some birds may have died as a result of the demolition, according to conservationists.

While the demolition of the Noida Supertech twin towers was mostly successful, a nearby residential society’s boundary wall was damaged, and several apartment windowpanes developed cracks.

Supertech Ltd has suffered a loss of about 500 crore, including construction and interest costs, as a result of the demolition of its twin towers in Noida, according to the company’s Chairman R K Arora.

Doctors have advised residents living near the Supertech twin towers, particularly those suffering from respiratory diseases, to exercise caution and avoid the area for a few days if possible.
