President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has declared his commitment to eradicating corruption among public officials, urging citizens to report any instances of bribery or extortion. He assured that officials engaging in such practices will be promptly removed from their positions.
The President highlighted this stance during the Monaragala public rally organized by the National People’s Power, emphasizing the historic shift in governance.
“For the first time, power has shifted from a corrupt elite to the hands of the common people. It’s unsettling for some… There’s frustration, even sorrow. Now, certain factions are trying to overturn this progress, but it’s not possible to defeat it easily. This is the rhetoric of those who feel threatened. They may even be shedding tears in private, wondering what happened to their influence. For years, they thrived on deceiving and intimidating the public. That era is over. They ruled like bandits, but that rule must end.”
The President also announced that the National People’s Power has put a stop to the practice of politicians receiving commissions, extending a call to government officials to do the same. “We’re telling government officials to stop asking for commissions. Politicians have initiated this change, and we expect officials to follow. Citizens, do not offer bribes to anyone. If you encounter anyone asking for bribes, report it to us. We’ll address the matter swiftly, ensuring those responsible are sent home. This is the foundation on which we must rebuild our country.”
