The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Jaffna Unit of the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) have apprehended three individuals in connection with the circulation of images and videos linked to Velupillai Prabhakaran, the leader of the banned LTTE organization. These materials were shared via a Facebook account, along with old videos from previous LTTE Mahavira commemorations, which were falsely presented as recent events held this year.
The suspects, aged 28, 35, and 45, are residents of Maradana, Chunnakam, and Baddegama, respectively.
They were arrested under Section 120 of the Penal Code and Section 27 of the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act No. 48 of 1979. The charges include inciting public unrest, attempting to provoke opposition, and promoting the activities of a proscribed organization through online platforms.
The CID and TID are continuing investigations into the matter.
