Reports indicate that a large-scale protest is scheduled to take place in Colombo, with youth from clubs across the island mobilized to demonstrate against the alleged politicization of the National People’s Power Movement. The protest, organized in response to what is seen as the government’s misuse of power, is set for August 6th.

According to available information, approximately 7,000 youth club members from various regions are expected to participate in the protest.

Speaking to the media, former Chairman of the Sri Lanka Youth Parliamentary Forum, Ravindra Pradeep Kulasinghe, stated that the protest is aimed at opposing the upcoming Youth Club Conference scheduled for August 12th. He claimed that the conference is being organized to include only youth clubs aligned with the government, thereby excluding independent voices.

Kulasinghe further explained that youth representatives from across the country will travel to Colombo, set up temporary camps, and stage a peaceful protest to express their disapproval of the growing politicization of youth-related activities and institutions.
