The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has raised serious concerns over the disruption of transfer procedures affecting more than 23,000 doctors across the country, attributing the issue to the actions of the Medical Services Unit of the Ministry of Health.
GMOA Media Spokesperson Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe stated that significant problems have emerged in the annual transfer process of senior doctors, creating unnecessary disruptions within the health system.
He emphasized that the procedures governing these transfers are clearly outlined in the Establishments Code. However, he accused the Medical Services Unit of acting arbitrarily, leading to the current crisis.
According to Dr. Wijesinghe, the transfer process for over 10,000 Grade doctors has not been implemented, and nearly 50% of the country’s doctors are currently not stationed at their designated hospitals.
He warned that the continued failure to address these issues could have a detrimental impact on the functioning of the country’s healthcare services.
