The CID has been tasked with investigating the power outage in the Parliament complex during the President’s inauguration.

Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe’s inauguration as the eighth Executive President was to be broadcast live by Independent Television and simultaneously by other television channels.

The live broadcast ended when the President walked down the red carpet into the Parliament complex.

The live broadcast was later reported to have been halted due to a power outage in the Parliament complex.

In the event of a power outage in the Parliament complex, the generators are usually turned on automatically within two minutes, and the power was reported to be out for about ten minutes during the President’s inauguration.

As a result, TV channels have been unable to cover live broadcasts.
