It has been reported that UNP Member of Parliament Uluwaduge Sandamali, who serves as a representative of the Colombo Municipal Council, has been seriously injured following an alleged assault by a group of activists from the National People’s Power (NPP) Party. She is currently receiving treatment at the Emergency Unit of the Colombo National Hospital.
According to reports, the incident occurred near MP Sandamali’s office, where she was allegedly attacked by political thugs affiliated with the NPP. A formal complaint regarding the assault has been lodged at the Colombo National Hospital Police Station.
The attack reportedly took place while the MP was using her mobile phone to record the unruly behavior of the activists, who were said to be setting off firecrackers near her office. It is alleged that the group turned violent upon noticing her actions.
MP Sandamali’s cries for help during the assault are said to have drawn the attention of nearby residents, including her husband, who rushed to the scene. However, the group is also reported to have assaulted them.
