Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna National Organiser and Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa was scheduled to deliver addresses at the Oxford Union and the Cambridge Union in the United Kingdom at the end of February.
Tamil diaspora groups and individuals described as LTTE sympathisers across the UK have jointly voiced strong opposition to his participation in these events.
Amid the protests, the address scheduled at the Cambridge Union has been cancelled.
In a joint statement, the Tamil Student Unions of the United Kingdom and the Tamil Youth Organisation (TYO UK) called on Namal Rajapaksa to immediately withdraw from the speaking engagement granted to him.
