The Mt Lavinia division of the Criminal Investigation Bureau has succeeded in arresting the person who came to the house of Kuliapitiya Magistrate Sampath Ariyasena on Piyaandala Madapata, Pinnawala Road under the guise of renting it, locked the magistrate in the house, and robbed his official car.

The police found the car bearing the number WP KR 2300 while it was parked on Hunupitiya Road, Wattala. According to police information, the suspect has been arrested after a long and tedious investigation, which included a scientific investigation including telephone network analysis and security camera footage.

The suspect is about 25 years old. At the time of his arrest, he was staying temporarily and rented a house in an apartment complex in Wattala.

The suspect is a Tamil national and he was educated at a main Catholic school in Colombo. It is said that the suspect’s father has worked in a state bank and his brother is working in a high-ranking job in a European country.

Investigations have revealed that the father and mother are living separately. Based on this situation, it has been found that this suspect has been living in Wattala rented house and engaged in fraud.

According to the advertisements on social media and websites, investigations have revealed that he has engaged in frauds worth crores and the police have not received any complaints about some of the frauds committed by this person.

Investigations have revealed that according to newspaper websites and social media network ads that have been published that houses are provided for rent, and it is his habit to go and steal the valuable things from those houses under the guise of renting them and even the magistrate’s house has been there under the guise of renting them.

But since the house was an empty house, the only valuable thing he had to steal was the car, so investigations have also revealed that the car was stolen in a planned manner. It is said that a lot of crimes including fraud committed by him are now being revealed.

For that, he has used a SIM card bought for a copy of the identity card of a dead woman. Police say that the woman is a resident of Dehiwala. It has been revealed that the woman has a son and he is addicted to drugs.

The judge’s official car was hijacked by this suspect on the evening of the 11th. The only clue the police had to chase this suspect was the telephone number he called the magistrate.

During the check on that number, the police identified 11 numbers from which he had been calling continuously in the last few days. One of those numbers belonged to a Wattala woman. The woman had posted an ad to sell 1000 US dollars that she had. His plan was to go to the house under the guise of buying the dollars and steal the dollars and run away.

He has not been able to commit the robbery because the woman did not give him the dollars. The officers of the Mount Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have been able to identify the face of this person after going to the house and checking the security cameras. In addition, investigations have revealed that he has prepared to steal dollars from a person in Moratuwa in the same way.

Apart from that, according to an advertisement that mobile phones were to be sold, it was revealed that there was a theft of mobile phones in another place.

This person has been found to be fluent in Tamil, Sinhala and English. After hijacking the car, the suspect mentioned that there were some valuable documents in the car and demanded an amount of 05 lakh rupees to the magistrate to provide those documents.

On hearing this, Mt.lavinia Senior Superintendent of Police Mangala Dehideniya, pretending to be the magistrate’s brother, talked to the suspect over the phone and asked for a bank account number to deposit the amount which he negotiated from 5 lakhs to 03 lakhs.

He has also given a bank account number through a text message. The bank account belongs to a state bank. Investigations have revealed that the account is the suspect’s own account. According to that, an address on Homagama area was recorded as his place of residence.

During the questioning of this suspect, a lot of very important information was revealed. Police information revealed that there are many crimes including fraud.
