The All Ceylon Communications Owners Association has warned that the implementation of the Social Security Contribution Tax will increase the price of all types of mobile phones and devices.
The association says that the government will impose a 2.5% tax on importers, manufacturers, service providers, wholesalers and retailers whose annual turnover exceeds Rs 10 crore.
The All Ceylon Communications Owners’ Association is of the opinion that the government has announced the social security contribution tax as 2.5% but by the time the product reaches the consumer it will be close to 5%, thereby increasing the prices of mobile phones and accessories.
The levy of social security contributions will be effective from 01 October 2022.
