Astron Limited Receives Environmental Sustainability Award

ISO 14001:2015 certification

Astron Limited was awarded the ISO 14001 certification (International Standard of “Environmental
Management System”) by the Sri Lanka Standards Institute on the 15 th of August 2022, confirming
the commitment of the Company towards the sustainability of the environment. Astron is a fully

owned Sri Lankan company that develops, manufactures, and markets quality healthcare products

including pharmaceuticals, nutritional supplements, herbal products under the brand range ‘healing

herbs’ and veterinary products for the local and export market. Over its 65 years of existence,

Astron has progressed to be one of the most reliable manufacturers of healthcare products in Sri

Lanka, earning the respect and admiration of healthcare professionals and consumers.

Astron has always been mindful of the impact its business has on the environment. The Company,

therefore, takes much pride in having obtained ISO 14001-2015; the Management of Environmental

Sustainability within and up to International Standards Operating Systems.

Dr. Malindra Badaturage, General Manager – Quality Operations, stated that this certification was

obtained as a direct result of the team effort of Astron’s employees and demonstrated innovative

actions towards environmental sustainability. He believes that the existing solid waste management

systems and the newly installed fully automated water treatment plant will further mitigate

environmental impacts of the process outcomes and functions of Astron. This certification is an

affirmation of Astron’s relentless pursuit of excellence. By obtaining this international standard,

Astron has proved its commitment towards the sustainability of the environment through People,

Planet and Profit (three P’s). Astron continues to drive strategies aimed at reducing its carbon

footprint throughout the value chain with the efforts of all its stakeholders.

In addition to the ISO 14001 certification, Astron also possesses GMP certification from the

National Medicines Regulatory Authority, ISO 22000-2018 and HACCP certification for its

nutritional product manufacturing facility and ISO 17025 accreditations for pharmaceutical

laboratory functions. Astron Animal Health Products manufacturing processes are governed by SLS

1505:2015 certification and Code of Practice for Good Animal Feeding (CAC/RCP 54-2004).

Astron’s Herbal manufacturing processes carry GMP certification from SGS.
