Ever since it was reported that the government had entered into a staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) last September, we have requested the government on many occasions to place the contents of the agreement before Parliament. Its purpose was to provide an opportunity to all members of parliament to present their suggestions and ideas in this regard. Nevertheless, the government did not heed any of those requests, and no information was allowed to the parliament or the people of this country until the final approval of the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund on March 20th.

Mr. Sajith Premadasa, the opposition leader, directed many questions to the government today under 27/2, stating that he strongly rejects this non-transparent behavior of the government and that it is regrettable that the government is trying to deceive the people by distorting crucial information. .
