President Ranil Wickramasinghe says that there is no other option left today other than the IMF agreement and in the absence of any other active option, it is to approve this.

The President said this while making a special statement joining the debate being held in Parliament today on the IMF loan amount.

“Let’s pass this together. At the same time, we can discuss the shortcomings of this because the IMF members come every 6 months.”

Furthermore, the president pointed out that the domestic debt restructuring program cannot be stopped, despite the collapse of banking services, the collapse of the stock market, and the impact on the employees’ provident fund.

“Especially when doing this we have to look at all sectors.. no one will be harmed.. some banks say they can’t face this, I say then take charge and lead the economy. same in the stock market. If the stock market crashes, I will close it. These guys can’t tell when it comes out. We will tell you what to do with these conditions and we will not allow the members of the EPF to be harmed.”

The President also stated that he will protect financial stability as well as low income earners.

Stating that certain trade unions have raised issues regarding taxes, the President requested that all those issues be discussed and resolved within 6 months and then everyone should come together to prepare one national policy framework.

“To do this work, the whole parliament will become a government. There may be different opinions on other issues. Now we have to build the country by 2048. If we don’t do this, we are failing the youth. don’t destroy the future. Look at them. Don’t think only about the center of power.”
