The Attorney General informs the Court of Appeal that the letter issued by the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration to transfer their powers to local coordination committees to control local government bodies whose term of office has ended has been withdrawn.

When the writ petition filed by Parliamentarian Ranjith Maddumabandara and Parliamentarian Harshana Rajakaruna, General Secretary of Samagi Jana Balavega, requesting to issue an order invalidating the letter issued by the Secretary of State Administration, the government lawyer who appeared for the Attorney General was presenting facts before the court. It was announced that the letter issued by the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration has been withdrawn.

The government lawyer informed that a new letter has been issued in relation to those activities.

However, Mr. Farman Casim, the President’s counsel who appeared for the petitioners, said that the relevant letter was removed after the filing of this petition, so he requested that this petition be set for hearing.

Accordingly, the court ordered the petition to be recalled on the 26th of this month.

The Prime Minister and the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration have been named as respondents in the petition.
