The Controversy Over the 40-Storey ‘Homeland Pentara’ Building in Thummulla, Colombo Deepens! Residents Take the Issue Directly to President Anura! Demand Immediate Independent Investigation Into UDA’s Approval!

esidents of the Thummulla area have sent a detailed letter to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, calling for an immediate and independent investigation into the approval granted by Urban Development Authority (UDA) officials for the 40-storey “Homeland Pentara” housing complex. The project, initiated by Homeland Company in Thummulla, Colombo, is alleged to be in violation of existing rules and regulations. (Sri Lanka Latest News)

According to reports, the residents forwarded their letter to the President yesterday (12).

In the letter, they highlight that construction has commenced within a “Special Primary Residential Development Zone.” They further allege that the land was hastily and secretly reclassified as belonging to a “medium-density mixed development zone” — a decision purportedly approved by senior UDA officials on August 1.

In protest of this controversial move, the residents organized a demonstration last Saturday, voicing strong opposition to the ongoing construction activities by Homeland Company.

Following the protest, police officers in charge of the area reportedly visited the construction site and informed that legal action may be taken concerning the project.

With the Urban Development Authority now coming under the purview of Minister Bimal Ratnayake, residents express hope that the new Minister will take the right decision on the matter. They also expect strict disciplinary action against UDA officials who allegedly abused their authority, following the outcome of an independent investigation.
