A cordial discussion between the American Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie J. Chung and Justice Minister Vijayadasa Rajapaksa was held in Colombo today (20). Mrs. Chung says that in a note on her Twitter account.

She says that there was a discussion about the Anti-Terrorism Bill.

“We discussed the issues of the Anti-Terrorism Bill, which is not up to international standards. She said that there is a need for a broad exchange of views among the people and in the parliament regarding the matters of the bill.

The ambassador has said that without restricting the freedom of expression or assembly, the voices of civil society, educationists and MPs should be listened to and this new law should be made an effective tool in the fight against terrorism.

Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms, President’s Counsel, Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa says that a meeting between him and the American Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Julie J. Chung, took place at the Ministry of Justice this morning.

“The Minister of Justice briefed the ambassador about the new Anti-Terrorism Bill to be submitted to the Parliament and the economic progress achieved by Sri Lanka so far,” he said.
