Hayeshika Fernando, popularly known as “Teacher Amma” and recognized for conducting online scholarship classes, has surrendered to the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today (14) in connection with an alleged assault incident involving a young man.

President’s Counsel Anuj Premaratne, appearing on behalf of Fernando, informed the court of her voluntary surrender.

According to police reports, the suspect allegedly kicked the victim several times in the lower abdomen. Following the incident, she reportedly turned off her mobile phone and fled the area along with her daughter.

Investigations further revealed that the assault was a retaliatory act linked to a Facebook post made by the sister of the victim. The post had reportedly criticized Hayeshika Fernando, prompting the alleged assault carried out by Fernando, her husband, and the manager of her educational institute.

Police had deployed three separate teams in an effort to apprehend Fernando. However, she remained at large until her court appearance and surrender earlier today.
