Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup team in Australia played everything but cricket. 62-page fact-finding report to sports minister.(EXCLUSIVE)

The fact finding committee chairperson recently handed over the report of an investigation committee to the minister of sports. The committee investigated into the participation of the Sri Lankan cricket team that represented Sri Lanka in the ICC T/20 World Championship and related incidents.

According to the section, 39(3) of the Sports Act No. 25 of 1973   an investigation committee of five members was appointed by the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Mr. Roshan Ranasinghe under the chairmanship of Ms. Kusala Sarojani Weerawardena retired Supreme Court judge, to investigate the participation of the Sri Lankan cricket team representing Sri Lanka in the ICC T/20 World Championship held in Australia from 16.10.2022 to 13.11.2022 and related incidents.

The committee comprised of retired Supreme Court Judge Ms. Kusala Sarojani Weerawardena chairperson and members former Ministry Secretary Mr. Kingsley Fernando, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Mr. Sudath Nagahamulla, retired Riyar Admiral Ananda Peiris, former cricketer Mr. Nalinda Alwis, attorney at law Mrs. Shalani Roshana Fernando to the Minister of Sports handed over the completed report to the minister and to the Ministry Secretary.

This committee’s report has specifically mentioned several key issues including the misuse of funds, the influence of social media, the influence of religious sects, etc.
