Sri Lanka Receives 38,000 Tons of Fuel; President Thanks India
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has expressed his gratitude for the arrival of a fuel ship in Sri Lanka, following a telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a post on his X account, President Dissanayake stated that he had discussed the ongoing fuel supply disruptions in Sri Lanka, caused by conflicts in the Middle East, with Prime Minister Modi a few days ago and received prompt support from India.

As a result of this cooperation, a ship carrying 38,000 metric tons of fuel arrived in the country. The President extended his thanks to Prime Minister Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, according to his statement.

The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka recently confirmed that ships carrying 20,000 metric tons of diesel and 18,000 metric tons of petrol were scheduled to arrive following the President’s call with the Indian Prime Minister. The relevant fuel ship arrived in the country yesterday.

In addition, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has taken steps to express his gratitude to the Indian government for the support.

We thank India for the emergency fuel support, a reminder that relationships are tested in crisis, not comfort. Let us not forget those who stood by us when it mattered. https://t.co/zXWIPwbw0G
