Bruno Divakara, the owner of the SL-Vlogs YouTube channel, has reportedly initiated legal proceedings against the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), seeking 50 million rupees in compensation for his arrest under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act in 2023.
The lawsuit is being pursued under the legal guidance of lawyer Tamila Perera, with attorneys Tishya Veragoda and Dylan Nalaka representing Divakara.
In May 2023, Bruno Divakara and comedian Natasha Edirisuriya were arrested by the CID following Edirisuriya’s controversial remarks in a comedy program, which were alleged to have insulted Buddhism. However, in June 2024, the Attorney General dropped all charges against them, leading to their acquittal.
