The ongoing adverse weather conditions have significantly impacted 20 districts across the island, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) revealed.

According to the DMC, 80,642 families residing in 166 Divisional Secretariat Divisions are currently affected by the severe weather. This includes a total of 276,550 individuals, with 16,553 people from 5,305 families seeking refuge in safe locations.

The disaster has resulted in six fatalities and six missing persons, as confirmed by the authorities. Additionally, 82 houses have been completely destroyed due to strong winds and landslides triggered by the deep depression in the southwest Bay of Bengal.

The fatalities have been reported from the districts of Puttalam, Badulla, and Ampara. Overall, 330,894 people have been affected by the extreme weather, which continues to wreak havoc across the island.

Authorities urge residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines as the situation unfolds.
