The Attanagalu Oya is experiencing severe flooding, particularly in the Dunamale area, according to reports. Director of Irrigation (Hydrology and Disaster Management) at the Irrigation Department, Engineer S. P. C. Susishwara, has issued a warning urging the public to exercise caution due to the rising water levels.
“The Irrigation Department has already issued warnings for significant flooding in the Attanagalu Oya basin, which flows through the Gampaha district. There is an ongoing risk to the low-lying areas in this region,” said Susishwara.
He further highlighted that the flood situation will persist throughout the day in the low-lying areas of Divulapitiya, Mirigama, Attanagalle, Mahara, Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Ja-Ela, Katana, and Wattala divisional secretariats.
“I also wish to emphasize that flood conditions in these low-lying areas may see slight further increases,” he added.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the threat of further flooding remains.
