Opposition Leader Slams Government Over Escalating Murders and National Security Failures

The culture of murder is spreading across the country day by day, and even today, a former provincial MP has been murdered in the Homagama Meegoda area — the constituency of the Deputy Minister of Defense. Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, issuing a special statement today, said that the government has been unable to stop this wave of killings.

He pointed out that these murders are occurring in the very area of the Deputy Minister of Defense, who was once requested to bring a chair and a bench to give tuition on national security.

Premadasa further stated that underworld gangs, gangsters, murderers, organized crime groups, along with bullets, bombs, bayonets, and swords, have taken control of society. He questioned whether the government, led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has any effective solution to address this problem.

The Opposition Leader emphasized that although the government claims these killings are not a national security issue, if citizens of the country are dying, it indeed becomes a matter of national security. He stressed that it is the responsibility of the government, under the leadership of the President, to ensure national security, safeguard the lives of the people, and fulfill this duty for the sake of the nation.
