Moratuwa District Court issues enjoining orders against Chamuditha Samarawickrama

Moratuwa District Court has issued two enjoining orders today (May 16) against Chamuditha Samarawickrama and another person preventing compilation and circulating defamatory content against the Defence Secretary, General Kamal Gunaratne.

These enjoining orders were issued over the spreading of false and defamatory content through the “Truth with Chamuditha” YouTube channel which is run by Journalist Samarawickrama. A Court Order was issued while the case was taken up for hearing over the demanding a compensation of Rs. 500 million against two defendants, regarding their statements.

Accordingly, the first enjoining order was issued against the first defendant, Samarawickrama, while preventing him from disseminating malicious statements with a view to tarnish the image of the plaintiff through any kind of such programmes or through any other media platform.

Afterwards, the second enjoining order was issued preventing the propagation of falsely fabricated content, through the “Truth with Chamuditha” YouTube channel which is administered by the first defendant or all other social media accounts run by both defendants, in consistent with the evidence submitted by the plaintiff to the court.

President’s Counsel Jagath Wickramanayake and Attorney-at-Law Ishan Alavathurage appeared the case following the instructions of Attorney-at-Law Ms. Eranga Pinnaduwa.

 The case will be heard again at the Moratuwa District Court on May 30.
