The Child and Women’s Bureau of Minuwangoda Police said that three minor children who were in a very unsafe condition without food or clothing were taken into custody.

A 12-year-old girl with special needs and her two brothers aged 7 and 8 have been arrested for their protection.

Police say that the father of these three children is dead. The police have taken steps to hospitalize the mother while she was lying on the floor in the Unnaruwa area of Minuwangoda without treatment.

The police said that the two boys had gone to school some time ago and had abandoned their schooling amid the prevailing poverty.

On a notification to the police by the child rights officer of the Minuwangoda Divisional Secretariat, the OIC of the Child and Women Abuse Prevention Bureau of the Minuwangoda Police, Sub Inspector of  police mentioned that Mrs. M. K.  Ramani took the three children under their care and took the mother to the hospital.

The police further stated that the three children who are in an unsafe condition will be produced before the Minuwangoda Magistrate’s Court and requested to be placed in appropriate custody. –
