The historic Seetha Amman Temple in Haggala, Nuwara Eliya has lodged a complaint with the Nuwara Eliya Police, reporting that money from six offering boxes placed at various locations within the temple premises was stolen last night (01), Sri Lanka Latest News reports.
According to our correspondent, the temple had six specially designed offering boxes. Three of those boxes, found emptied, had been thrown into a canal near the temple.
In addition, the thieves had removed the data storage devices connected to the temple’s security camera system.
It has also been reported that although a security guard was present at the temple, the suspects had managed to enter the premises while the guard was asleep, our correspondent stated.
The Nuwara Eliya Police have commenced investigations to apprehend the suspects.
