According to the Association of Government Medical Officers, the Ministry of Health spent 30 billion rupees on emergency purchases last year. (Sri Lanka Latest News)

Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe, media spokesperson of the association, states that serious allegations have already been made and will continue to be made about the quality of the drugs that are brought to this country through emergency purchases.

Dr. Chamil also alleges that through irregular methods and the weakening of the Drug Regulatory Authority’s program, enough loopholes have been created to bring inferior drugs into the country.

However, Dr. Chamil points out that even if inferior medicines come into the country, we cannot identify them and the necessary laboratory facilities are not available in the country.

Although the President recently mentioned that drugs approved by the United States of America should be brought to Sri Lanka, this is still not being implemented and he has also said that problematic drugs are being brought to Sri Lanka at the expense of a lot of money.
