It is reported that there has been a shortage of medicines for about two weeks now due to a breakdown in the software related to ordering, distributing and maintaining stock of medicines for government hospitals. (Sri Lanka Latest News)
A software system called pronto has been used for some time to order the necessary drugs from the Medical Supplies Division (MSD) under the Ministry of Health by maintaining records of drug supplies to government hospitals across the country.
Hospital pharmacists say that the swastha software which was introduced instead of it since the last day is still not working properly.
For that reason, they say that it is not possible to order the medicines required for government hospitals.
There was no problem with the system we were working with before. Instead, this new system was brought. Now this doesn’t work. Does not display stock correctly. In some places there is a shortage of medicines. In another place, it shows that stock is available after ordering the missing drugs. This is a problem…
Due to the new system, the old system was removed from the first of this month. Since then, this new system has been a mess. Now we are told not to order medicine. There is a shortage of synthetic drugs in hospitals. When the hospitals run out of medicine, MSD cannot be ordered as usual. There is no way. Therefore, even though there is stock in the MSD warehouse, there is a shortage of drugs in the hospitals. Some hospitals don’t even have a drug like Metformin. When the patient took the tip from the doctor and came to our pharmacy, there was no medicine. The doctor will prescribe the trip. Even after two weeks, these people still couldn’t fix this system… say the pharmacists of the government hospitals commenting on this.
