The National Center of Trade Zone Employees says that if the electricity bill is raised again, the garment industry will collapse completely. Its convener Gamini Ratnayake said that it has already been decided to take away many large-scale industries in the garment sector from the country. He also mentioned that several garment factories have decided to withdraw from the country at the end of this month.

Gamini Ratnayake, the convenor of the Trade Zone Employees’ National Center, further says that there is a serious risk of the employees losing their jobs in view of the current situation.

The government is preparing to increase the electricity bill again in the months of January and June in order to reduce the losses incurred by the Ceylon Electricity Board. It was announced earlier that the approval of the Council of Ministers has already been received for this.
