Regarding child malnutrition and underweight girls in this country, a British medical journal has published special information. Lanka Latest News

It is said that the concerned Magazine known as The Lancet is a famous magazine with a long history. Now published weekly, it was first published in 1823.

According to the article published by The Lancet magazine, 400,000 girls in this country are underweight children. It is 16.4% of all female children.

Although various programs have been implemented to improve children’s nutrition, Sagarava has reported that since 1990, there has not been much change in this situation.

According to data found by The Lancet magazine covering the years 1990 to 2022, Sri Lanka ranks second among countries with the highest number of underweight girls between the ages of 5 and 19. Globally, Sri Lanka is second only to India.

However, the situation in India is not as bad as in Sri Lanka. The reason is that in the 33 years since 1990, the prevalence of underweight people in India has been steadily decreasing.

The Sri Lankan health authorities have rejected the facts revealed about Sri Lanka in the relevant report.

Like the Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Mr. Palitha Mahipala, the Director of the Family Health Bureau, Dr. Chitramaleeda Silva has also said that they are not satisfied with the data obtained to prepare the Lancet report.
