On September 2nd, two brand-new, state-of-the-art scan machines worth 500 million rupees were installed at the arrival terminal of Katunayake International Airport Customs.

These machines will enable the speedy clearance of luggage for nearly 20,000 passengers arriving daily at the airport, allowing Sri Lanka Customs to deliver a more efficient service.

Manufactured in Germany, the scanners are equipped with advanced technology that provides three-dimensional imaging of the items inside passengers’ luggage—a notable feature.

The two machines have been placed at the entry points of the “Red Channel” for passengers declaring goods, and the “Green Channel” for those with nothing to declare.

The official commissioning of the machines was attended by the new Director General of Customs, Mr. Seewali Arukgoda.
