The service of the Chief Management Service Officer has been suspended with immediate effect for allegedly taking the amount of 51 lakh rupees that was received as payment to the Cashier Section of the Finance Department of the Kandy Municipality to be spent on her daughter’s wedding without crediting it to the council account. Sri Lanka Latest News

After conducting a preliminary investigation into the incident, the Municipal Commissioner of Kandy Municipal Council, Mr. Ishan Wijethilaka, has forwarded the recommendation for the suspension of the employee in question to the Central Province Chief Secretary, Mr. Ajith Premawansa, by the Provincial Chief Ministry Secretary, Mr. Menaka Herath.

Based on those recommendations, the Provincial Chief Secretary has sent the letter of suspension from work to the Chief Management Service Officer of the Shroff Division by the Kandy Municipal Commissioner.

In the investigation conducted in this regard, it has been found that there are many cases where the income of several lakhs of rupees collected daily in the form of assessments, water bills and other fees were deposited in the bank after many days.

Accordingly, the municipal council has started investigations based on the facts that have been revealed that this officer has been committing this fraud either alone or together with another group.

In several other places in the Kandy Central Market, a program is in place to give money to people doing business at 10% interest in the morning and collect the relevant amount along with the interest in the afternoon. Investigating officers have raised serious suspicions that it was taken.

Kandy Municipal Commissioner Mr. Ishan Wijethilaka said that taking into consideration the frauds and corruption reported in the past few days, all the payments made to the accounts department of the city council can be credited to the city council account through the postal department.
