The opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa said that the government has tried more than twenty-two times to postpone the elections and the sole aim of the government led by the president is not to hold elections.
The opposition leader said that if the people do not get the opportunity to use their democratic right to vote, democracy can explode and questioned whether the government is trying to do so.
Commenting on the government’s use of tear gas to suppress protests and agitations, the opposition leader said that the government has no right to use tear gas to suppress people’s protests, whether toxic or non-toxic.
Opposition Leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa visited the historic Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy this morning (11) to obtain blessings.
The opposition leader arrived at Sri Dalada Palace and was welcomed by Mr. Nilanga Delabandara.
After that, the opposition leader visited the Malwathu Maha Vihara and received the blessings of His Holiness Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake, the Mahanayaka of the Malwatu Maha Vihara Sect then he visited Maha Viharavanshika Syamopali Maha Nikaya. Most Reverend Varakagoda Sri Gnanaratana Mahanayake of the Asgiriya temple and received his blessings.
