Reports indicate that regardless of the outcome of the upcoming presidential election, it has been decided to dissolve the parliament and hold an immediate general election within 48 hours of the new president being sworn in.
According to sources, Parliament will be dissolved within a few days following the presidential election on October 5th.
This means that only 135 days remain to conduct a general election.
As a result, many current MPs may face defeat in the general election after the dissolution of Parliament, creating opportunities for new faces from various parties to enter Parliament.
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is currently leading in opinion polls for the upcoming elections, and it is anticipated that the SJB will secure the highest number of seats in the general election.
Polls also suggest that the Podujana Peramuna, contesting with the Pohottuwa symbol, has a chance of finishing second.
Additionally, the Janata Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) appears to have emerged as a third force, reminiscent of their performance in the 2001 general elections when they won 16 seats.
The party projected to come in fourth is likely to secure two seats and one National List MP.
Meanwhile, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), the main party in the North, has fragmented into several factions, potentially resulting in a loss of nearly 15 seats that they previously held.
