Meteorological Department Issues Warning: Strong Winds and Rough Seas Expected

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning about strong winds and rough seas. Sri Lanka Latest News

The relevant notification has been issued to be effective till 10.30 pm today (23).

Accordingly, the Red Notice has been issued for fishing and marine communities operating in the deep sea areas of the South-Eastern Arabian Sea and South-West Bay of Bengal.

The Department of Meteorology has also announced that by tomorrow (24) the turbulent nature of the lower atmosphere may develop into a depression over the central area of the Bay of Bengal.

Then it moves further towards the northeast of the Bay of Bengal.

By that time, very strong winds up to 60-70 kmph may occur in the sea areas around the island and in the South-East Arabian and South-West Bay of Bengal sea areas and the sea may be very rough.

Sailors and fishermen have also been informed not to sail to the sea areas shown in the above map until further notice.

Those currently in those areas have been advised to come ashore immediately and be aware of further announcements.
