Government’s False Claims Exposed Post Diana’s Parliament Seat Loss; Former Election Commissioner Clarifies: No Issue with SJB MPs

A campaign aimed at Samagi Jana Balavega by the government to avoid the serious embarrassment faced by the government after the cancellation of Mrs. Diana Gamage’s position as a Member of Parliament by the court has now become a complete lie.Sri Lanka Latest News

Yesterday, in a campaign carried out by the government inside and outside the parliament, it was said that Diana Gamage’s MP post was abolished, as she was also with Sajaba, there has been some uncertainty regarding the MP positions of Sajaba MPs.

It could be seen that the government-friendly media as well as some websites had given wide publicity to that news.

However, former Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya, who has commented on this matter, has stated that even if Diana Gamage’s position as MP is abolished, it will not have any effect on the positions of Sajaba MPs.

Also, the former Election Commissioner, who has pointed out that there is no law anywhere that a foreign citizen cannot register a political party, has also pointed out that the law states that a dual citizen or a foreign citizen cannot become a Member of Parliament.

Also, Mr. Mahinda Deshapriya, who pointed out that Mrs Diana Gamage has not even signed the nomination paper of the Samagi Jana Balavega, said that Mrs. Diana Gamage has at least not worked as the Secretary General of our national front.

Mr. Mahinda Deshapriya pointed out that our national front was registered by the former ministers Mangala Samaraweera and Shripati Suriyaarachchi and at that time Mr. Ruwan Ferdinands was the secretary general, and later the post of secretary general of the party was held by the husband of Mrs. Diana Gamage.

SJB who came to parliament with Diana is also wrong.
Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said in Parliament that those who came to Parliament from a party that registered a person without citizenship should find a good legal team.

The Minister said that the Supreme Court has given a decision regarding the position of Minister of State Diana Gamage, but said that another problem arises with that decision.

The minister said that the relevant decision given was based on d that Mrs. Diana Gamage does not have citizenship and said that the party of many MPs in the Parliament has been registered by Diana Gamage who does not have citizenship.

Accordingly, Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that there is a question of whether the Samagi Jana Balawegaya is legally valid.

A situation where all SJB councilor positions are abolished by Diana’s decision…

It is reported that with the cancellation of Mrs. Diana Gamage’s parliamentary position, the positions of all members of the People’s Power are at high risk.

The fact that she is mentioned as the deputy secretary of the party in the documents given to the Election Commission raises a problematic situation regarding the legitimacy of the party.

The Supreme Court today revoked her membership as a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka while she was a British citizen.

Based on the current situation, it is reported that there is a high possibility that the nomination papers handed over while she was holding the position of Deputy Secretary will be cancelled.
