The government is focusing on restricting access to social media for school children under the age of 12.
Minister of Children and Women’s Affairs, Savitri Paulraj, stated that discussions on the matter have already begun. She added that a proposal has been submitted recommending that children under 12 completely stop using mobile phones, while also emphasizing the need to ban their access to social media platforms.
“Many countries around the world have already introduced laws to prohibit social media use by school children, and Sri Lanka is now focusing on this issue as well,” Minister Paulraj said.
The Minister further highlighted the necessity of such restrictions, citing a recent increase in immoral incidents involving children connected to the internet.
