Cabinet Media Spokesperson, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, stated that the government maintains the position that electricity tariffs must align with the cost of production. He assured that the upcoming revision in electricity bills will not surpass the rates that were in effect in December.

The Minister made this statement in response to a question posed by a journalist during the Cabinet Decisions Media Briefing held today.

Elaborating further, Minister Jayatissa emphasized,

“The government is of the position that the electricity bill should be in line with the cost of production. The electricity bill will not increase in any way compared to the electricity bill prevailing in December. For industries, households, and the hotel sector, you will receive an electricity bill that will not be higher than what you paid in December. The government is working towards that.”
