A tense situation unfolded during the Mahinda Perahera held in Badulla city last night (10), when an elephant participating in the procession became agitated.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The Badulla Kailagoda Mahinda Perahera paraded through the streets of Badulla for the 85th time last night. This annual event is organized by the Saddharmananda Pirivena Viharaya in Badulla and features a variety of traditional elements including elephants, cultural dances, and more.
The disturbance occurred when the elephant carrying the coffin became restless during the procession. However, the mahout was able to calm the animal within a short period, allowing the perahera to continue without further disruption.
