The decision by the Secretary to the Ministry of Energy to extend the term of office of the Director General of the Power Sector Reforms Secretariat by one year has been revoked with immediate effect by the Minister of Power and Energy, Kumara Jayakody, Sri Lanka Latest News reports.

On October 15th, the Secretary to the Ministry of Energy, Udayanga Hemapala, issued a letter to H.P. Niroshan, Director of the Power Sector Reforms Secretariat, extending his term of office until June 26th of the coming year. The letter stated that the extension had been approved by Minister Kumara Jayakody.

However, on October 22nd, Minister Jayakody sent a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry, instructing that the appointment be cancelled with immediate effect. In his letter, the Minister clarified that he had not given approval for the extension and emphasized that seeking approval for such an extension could create a false impression.

Consequently, Minister Jayakody has directed the Secretary to withdraw all actions taken in relation to the appointment of the Director General, including the letter issued on October 15th, with immediate effect.
