Controversy Grows Over Sajith Premadasa’s Official Visit to India: Diverging Responses Within SJB
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A significant political controversy has emerged in the country regarding the three-day official visit of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa to India, made on an official invitation. Sri Lanka Latest News

Yesterday, we reported extensively on this matter, highlighting how UNP leaders have been actively criticizing and attempting to undermine the visit in various ways.

When journalists from Hiru Channel questioned Dr. Harsha de Silva, the SJB Treasurer and SJB Kotte Organizer, on the issue, we reported that Dr. Harsha de Silva stated he was not aware of the trip. We also pointed out that the Opposition Leader had not yet informed the party about the visit, and therefore Dr. Harsha de Silva said he was unable to comment.

While Dr. Harsha de Silva, who serves as the SJB Kotte Organizer, responded in this manner regarding the Opposition Leader’s visit, yesterday the Opposition Leader’s Pohottuwe Kotte Organizer, Milinda Rajapaksa, conducted a special program concerning the visit.

During the program, Milinda Rajapaksa — speaking without political bias or pretence — stated that the Opposition Leader had requested assistance for Sri Lanka from every Indian leader he met. He further noted that such a move is unusual for an Opposition Leader, recalling that even Sunil Handunnethi once urged Sri Lankans overseas not to send dollars to Sri Lanka during the Gotabaya Rajapaksa administration.

Milinda Rajapaksa made these remarks as his own honest opinion regarding the Opposition Leader’s visit to India, despite not being informed of it beforehand or afterwards.

However, it is particularly noteworthy that Dr. Harsha de Silva, as the SJB Treasurer and Chief Organizer for Kotte, responded to the matter in a completely different manner.
