He was taken into custody when he appeared before the Bribery Commission this morning (12).
According to reports, the former minister has been accused of causing financial losses to the government by unlawfully appointing a brokerage firm to handle insurance services for employees of four institutions operating under the Ministry of Tourism. It is alleged that, as a result, the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation was compelled to pay a sum of Rs. 4,750,828.72 to the brokerage firm.
