CID to Investigate Scribbling on Maligakanda Court Document Following Request by Deputy Solicitor General

May 7, 2025 – Maligakanda Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama Weerasinghe yesterday (07) handed over the investigation into suspicious scribbling on an official document maintained at the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

This decision was made after Deputy Solicitor General Lakmini Girihagama submitted a request highlighting the complexity of the matter. She stressed that the investigation should be conducted under the direct supervision of the CID Director, Mr. Shani Abeysekara. Accepting this request, Magistrate Weerasinghe also ordered that all related court documents, including the questioned ‘motion book’, be sealed and securely stored for the duration of the inquiry.

Raising serious concerns over potential misconduct within the judicial process, the Magistrate underscored that the investigation must be conducted thoroughly and impartially, without causing prejudice to any suspects involved.

This development follows a case initiated by the Food and Drug Inspector of the National Drug Regulatory Authority, stemming from a complaint lodged with the Ministry of Health by Sanath Kumara Athukorala, a resident of High Level Road, Nugegoda. The complaint was made against a major private hospital in Narahenpita and its directors, accusing them of overpricing medicines sold to an inpatient. Legal proceedings have since been filed against the hospital’s directors.
