The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the decision by the United States of America to reduce the reciprocal tariff rate on Sri Lankan exports from 44% to 30%.
In an official statement, the Chamber commended this move as a significant and positive first step by the Sri Lankan government toward aligning the country’s export tariffs with those of regional competitors.
However, the Chamber also emphasized the importance of sustained engagement with U.S. authorities. It urged the government to continue its discussions with the U.S. administration, aiming for a further reduction in the tariff rate by August 1. The Chamber noted that several other countries in the region are expected to benefit from even more favorable tariff structures.
Reaffirming its support, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce stated that it remains ready to assist the government’s efforts through constructive dialogue, industry feedback, and coordinated consultation.
