Sri Lanka Faces 30% Reciprocal Tariff on U.S. Exports, Says Finance Ministry Secretary
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma has announced that the newly imposed 30 percent reciprocal tariff on goods exported to the United States will be applied in addition to existing taxes on such exports.

He further stated that this tariff will also be applied uniformly to other regional countries. The Sri Lankan government’s objective, he explained, is to preserve the country’s export competitiveness, taking into account the overall pricing impact after the imposition of the new tariff.

Dr. Suriyapperuma also noted that the United States has reduced its previously announced tariff rate of 44 percent to a significantly lower rate of 30 percent within the region. Among the countries affected, Sri Lanka has received the highest reduction from the initially proposed rates.
