Cabinet decision not to accept money deposits was communicated to the Ministry secretaries by  Public Administration sec. Neel Bandara Hapuhinna.  Letter is reproduced below.

It has been revealed that the Secretary of State Administration Home Affairs Provincial Councils, and Local Government Ministry, Mr. Neil Bandara Hapuhinna, has sent a letter to all district secretaries instructing them not to accept the candidates’ deposits in connection with the local government elections.

According to the letter, Mr. Hapuhinna sent this letter in accordance with a cabinet decision.

Mr. Sajith Premadasa, the opposition leader, produced the letter to the media today.
