This afternoon, the Election Commission has sent a letter to all election officers to continue accepting the deposits made by political parties and independent groups as scheduled.
This was after a letter sent to all district secretaries by Mr. Neil Bandara Hapuhinna, Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, not to accept the deposit of bail according to a cabinet order.
In a special statement this afternoon, Mr. Sajith Premadasa said that this letter sent by the Secretary of State Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils, and Local Government Ministry, Mr. Neil Bandara Hapuhinna is illegal and legal action will be taken against it.
