Bribery Commission Launches Major Probe into Assets of Senior Police, Military, and Key Government Officials

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has decided to launch a comprehensive probe into the assets of senior officials across several key government institutions, including the Police, Tri-Forces, Prisons Department, Sri Lanka Customs, and the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Sri Lanka Latest News reports.

According to information revealed, certain officials serving in these institutions are suspected of maintaining direct links with organized criminal groups. The Commission has confirmed that internal inquiries have already commenced against several senior Army officers and a group of senior Police officers following complaints alleging ties with such criminal networks.

A senior official of the Bribery Commission told Dinamina that the Commission is prioritizing these investigations due to the growing number of complaints received against officials in these sectors. While the Commission routinely reviews annual asset and liability declarations of government officers, it is now examining whether corruption has taken place beyond those submissions.

In the initial stage of this process, the Commission will scrutinize the asset files of senior officers in the Police and Tri-Forces before extending the probe to junior ranks.

Additionally, several other revenue-generating and public-related government institutions will be brought under similar review. Steps will also be taken to recruit staff on a contractual basis to support the investigation process, the senior official added.
