The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption today (19) filed indictments before the Colombo High Court against three accused, including former State Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa, over allegations of corruption.

The other two accused named in the indictment are Sepalika Saman Kumari and Keerthi Bandara Kotagama.

A total of 10 charges have been filed against the accused in this case. The prosecution has listed 30 witnesses and submitted 38 documents as exhibits.

According to the Bribery Commission, the accused have been charged with committing and aiding and abetting the offence of corruption by using official authority to influence certain government officials attached to the Office for Compensation for Damages.

The charges relate to the obtaining of compensation amounting to Rs. 8,850,000 for a property, including a building, that had been illegally constructed on land belonging to the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority in the Kiriibbanwewa area of Sevanagala. The property was damaged during the unrest that took place on May 9, 2022.

The Bribery Commission alleges that compensation was obtained for the said property despite officials initially refusing to approve compensation payments in relation to it.
