JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that President Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Minister of Finance has submitted a cabinet paper to grant tax concessions to the Western Automobile Company to start an electric vehicle assembly project, and by giving tax concessions to cronies in this way, the country will lose a lot of tax revenue he said. Speaking in Parliament today, he said that this company had been given an 8-year tax exemption period in 2015 in a previous agreement signed by this company with the Board of Investment, and another 6-year tax exemption period had been given.
Also, Mr Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that a 30% tax was imposed after that agreement and that through the new cabinet paper presented by the President, arrangements have been made to nullify that 30% tax.
Mr. Dissanayake also mentioned that the President has taken steps to provide relief to his cronies through this.
Mr. Dissanayake said that the President always speaks in the Parliament to support his program, questioning whether he is inviting to support such activities.
